When Vels Movie World published the first look of Mamitha Baiju in the much-hyped Tamil thriller, Kara, on the 24th of March, 2026, it was not what the internet was looking forward to. No glitz, no designer figure. Instead, she was pictured in one of her austere red sarees with an air of conspiratoriness, with an auster, rural, type of character that was the exact opposite of everything her growing fanbase had learned to associate with her name. In less than a decade in the film industry, she has managed to find her way to the screen with Dhanush, Vijay and Suriya whose names are synonymous with the South Indian film industry. Her course is not by chance. The result of a wise choice, an upbringing in the Kerala district of Kottayam, and an ability to fill roles in which the viewer believes to be true is its source.

Family Background and Early Life
Mamitha Baiju was born on 22 June 2001 in the town of Kidangoor, Kottayam district, Kerala. She has a very close-knit medical family. Her father, Dr. Baiju Krishnan, is a diabetologist, and her mother is Mini Baiju. She has an elder brother, Mithun Baiju, a cricketer.

The deliberate nature of her approach towards performance appears to have been shaped by her upbringing in that environment. She has no record of any formal training in any stage in her early years—acting instinct was certainly developed naturally, perfected by observation and not by instruction.

Education Qualification of Mamitha Baiju
In the schools of Mary Mount Public School, Kattachira, and N.S.S. Higher Secondary School, Kidangoor, Mamitha completed her education. She was an active student as well and proceeded to higher education in Kochi, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. However, she dropped out later in the 3rd year due to a attendance shortage but eventually went to a result of the conflict between the actor’s career and education, a conflict most young artists have gone through as their careers are accelerating faster than school lessons.
It is interesting to note that her major as an undergraduate student, which is psychology, is not completely irrelevant to her career. It is the understanding of human behaviour, emotional stimuli, and human relationships that good character actors tap into; it is something that Mamitha, when interviewed, has even described herself as.

From Debut to Stardom (2017-2022)
Mamitha Baiju starts out at 16. She stars in Malayalam for the first time in Sarvopari Palakkaran in 2017 and has starred in cameo roles in Honey Bee 2: Celebrations, Dakini, Varathan and Vikruthi. These are not the best roles and shouldn’t be. These were the mute, accretive years, when a teacher taught an actor to be in time, to react in this or that manner to a camera, and to share a frame with better practiced actors.
In 2021, she starred for the first time in the lead roles of Operation Java and Kho Kho. She has won the Kerala Film Critics Awards as the Best Supporting Actress for Kho Kho. This was her first taste of success and the show must go on.
In 2022, she starred in a commercial Super Sharanya as Sona. Her decision at that time was followed by a statement from the New Indian Express that she has already shown that she has the potential to be a great actor and could have done more than that if she chose to. The same year saw her in Pranaya Vilasam and Ramachandra Boss and Co. with Nivin Pauly, a Malayalam movie star (again with the big names).
Mamitha Baiju’s Breakout: Premalu
In 2014 she played Reenu in the film ‘Premalu’ directed by Girish A.D. and this was Mamitha Baiju’s breakout. It was a hit at the time of release and was touted as one of the biggest Malayalam films of all times.
The New Indian Express published an article about her performance in the film, stating that though the movie can be stuffed with a bunch of young actors, Mamitha Baiju has no issue as a charming performing artist. She was fast, tight, emotional and able to pull a face that calls for an actor who knows the sense of comedy and dramatic dip. Mamitha do what was natural to her on screen.
She was already on the cards for big Tamil and Telugu films.
Rebel and Dude craze
Mamitha played her first Tamil film in 2014, Rebel with G. V. Prakash Kumar. The film has been considered a hit or miss but Mamitha was appreciated. Or, she played in 2015 film Dude with Pradeep Ranganathan and R. Sarathkumar. This film too has grossed more than 100 crores and she was appreciated. As per the Times of India Mamitha is good and the role was natural for her as she put it.
Mamitha Baiju’s Kara
Mamitha’s much-awaited film in 2026 is Kara. Vignesh Raja wrote and directed it, and he also co-wrote the film with Alfred Prakash of the investigative drama Por Thozhil fame. The team is set to release the film on April 30, 2026.
The film stars Mamitha Baiju in the lead role with Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, K.S. Ravikumar, Karunas and Prithvi Pandiraj. The filmmakers are Theni Eswar (cinematographer), Sreejith Sarang (editor) and G.V. Prakash Kumar (music director), and the film has received a national award for best soundtrack.
Mamitha plays Selli in the film Kara. The film looks like it’s in rural setting and looks like dirt.
